Do you know why the Vatican flag is white and yellow ?: The papal or Vatican City flag is made up of two vertical fields, yellow (on the left) and white (on the right). However, in the past the flag of the papal state was yellow and maroon, two traditional colors of the Senate and of the Roman people. The oldest yellow-white papal flag, first flown in 1824 by the merchant navy, had the fields arranged diagonally. Later, Pius XI, after returning from the exile of Gaeta, arranged for the two vertical bands to be represented, and added the papal shield.
